...they will listen to my voice; so there will be one fold, and one shepherd.

Reception into the Catholic Church

From the Diocese of Rochester – Policies for the Administration of the Sacraments, 4:

“The Rite of Christian Initiation presented here is designed for adults who, after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God and enter the way of faith and conversion as the Holy Spirit opens their hearts. By God’s help they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and at the proper time will receive the Sacrament fruitfully.” (RCIA, no. 1).

“This Rite includes not simply the celebration of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, but also the rites belonging to the catechumenate…” (RCIA, no. 2).

“The celebration of Baptism must be prepared properly; consequently: an adult who intends to receive Baptism is to be admitted to the catechumenate and is to be led insofar as possible, through the various stages to Sacramental initiation, according to the order of initiation…” (Code of Canon Law, c. 851, 1°).

Everyone’s journey to Christ and to the practice of the Catholic Faith is different. People come to the Church with varying experiences of faith, worship, and education. Some come to the Church having already been baptized many years prior, whether Catholic or not. They may be seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation, or Confession after being away from the Church for a long time, or simply catechesis on what the Church teaches.

Let’s begin the conversation. Please contact us and, together, we will take this next step in following Christ.
